We admitted we were powerless over our addictions and compulsive behaviors, that our lives had become unmanageable.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding Proverbs 3:5
When we truly understand that we are powerless, it changes everything. The world tells us that we must be self sufficient. That we cannot rely on others to help get our needs meet. That if we ever have to ask others for help, we are weak. When we come to the understanding of powerlessness, it turns our entire world upside down. In our old life we would often hear ourselves saying “I can handle this”, we now know that this thinking is a sign of being in dangerous territory. Anytime we get into this type of thinking we stop being powerless and go headlong into self reliance. And we stop our reliance on God.
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 1 John 4:16
Heavenly Father, I know I need to rely on you and not try to “handle” things myself. I need your help to stay God Reliant and not self reliant. Thank You for loving us so much that You gave us Your son Jesus. I long to live in Your love and to be an example of Your love to the world.
